It is impossible not to be astonished by India. Nowhere on Earth does humanity present itself in such a dizzying, creative burst of cultures and religions, races and tongues.

Sorry for the delay. Working internet is difficult to get, even in the hotels after you pay for it.

After a flight to Doha, Qatar, a four hour layover, then another flight to Delhi, we finally arrived at the wonderful Hotel Imperial in New Delhi. It was a great hotel, beautifully designed in 1933.

After flying all night with little sleep, we took off to explore Old & New Delhi. Delhi dates back 3,000 years with huge building projects by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. We visited the Jama Masjid Mosque, and from there took a cycle rickshaw ride through the bazaar to the Red Fort. We continued to Diwan-I-Awan, the hall of public audiences, where the emperor would sit to hear complaints/disputes from his subjects.  As the sun was setting, we finished the evening at Mahatma Gandhi funeral pyre site.

This little 10 minute ride was my highlight of the day! Watch the video and imagine you're sitting on a cycle rickshaw...listen to the horns honk, look at the people/crowds, imagine the smells, sounds, and sights...fantastic little trip, wasn't it?!

Later that night we ate at the Spice Route Restaurant, voted by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the top ten restaurants  in the world. It was delectable! The next morning off to the new capital, Humayun's Tomb, and my personal favorite of the day Qutb Minar, a 5-story sandstone tower. It's leaning because of earthquakes.

That electrical wire goes right there...no, there, no, yes that's the place!

Tombs of architects killed after completing Mughal Emperor's tomb-so they wouldn't build any thing more beautiful.

On Wednesday we flew from Delhi to Udaipur and checked into the most glorious hotels ever!!
More on our Udaipur adventures and hotel later...

  2. WOW Melissa! Reading your commentary was almost like being there with you and Greg. The Cairo blogs bought back a lot of memories from a couple of years ago, we were at many of the same spots...my eyes are burning still from the smog! The spice vendors are truly unique and fragrant! Bet no one in the bizarre called you Mrs Obama!
